Awarding prizes for social inventions

The Institute for Social Inventions runs an annual competition with £1000 in prizes for novel ideas and projects that will improve the quality of life or help restore a human scale to society Winners in recent years, for instance, included "The Great Ape Project" (aiming at giving legal rights to apes), The Natural Step (national plans for sustainability, started in Sweden) and Macrocosm's Global Suggestions Box for access by computer and modem to social innovations.
