Threatened species of Lanius

Name(s):
Threatened species of Shrike
Nature
Declines of shrike populations are attributed to the consumption of contaminated prey (large insects and small mammals), the loss of nesting sites such as hedgerows and thorn trees, and the loss of pastureland feeding habitat through changes in agricultural land use.
Incidence
Breeding bird surveys from 1966 to 1987 indicated sharp population declines in loggerhead shrikes [Lanius ludovicianus migrans] throughout the North American breeding range.
