Eastern lowland gorillas have a very limited range and small population. They are threatened by a variety of pressures, including hunting for "bush meat".
Background
Eastern lowland gorillas are found only in eastern part of the Democratic Republic of Congo.
Incidence
In 1980, the Eastern lowland subspecies was estimated to number 3,000-5,000 individuals; the full range of this subspecies is not established and it may total over 10,000 individuals.
