The genus Blarinella comprises of two species of burrowing shrew, which are restricted to north Myanmar and parts of southern China. [Blarinella wardi] has only just been recognised as a seperate species.
Little is known of the habitat or ecology of [B. wardi] apart from that its preferred habitat is montane forest.
