Incidence
It was reported in the 1990s that a school in a little village surrounded by forests in the foothills of Mount Fuji, Japan, had only one student in the entire school. Daiki Saito was the sole child living in the village, but the government spent more than US$100,000 renovating an abandoned old schoolhouse for him and then assigned him his own first grade teacher and principal. It cost $175,000 a year to run Daiki's school.
