Humpback whales feed and breed near coasts, making them vulnerable to human disturbance.
Incidence:
The population of humpback whales is thought to have stood at 150,000 before the onset of commercial whaling. Today, perhaps 20,000 remain. Some populations are showing signs of recovery.
