In 1997 it was reported that hog badgers in Cuc Phuong forest - Vietnam were under heavy hunting pressure. A lack of information is probably the main conservation issue concerning the hog badger.
The Hogbadger ranges over south-east Asia, ocurring in Assam, Bhutan, China, Vietnam, Laos, Thailand, Cambodia and the island of Sumatra. Forested areas are the hog badger's principal habitat, including lowland jungles and wooded highlands up to 3000 metres or more in northern China. The species also occurs in a variety of other habitats across its range.
