Assaults on prison staff
Incidence:
In the UK in 1993 the number of attacks on prison staff rose by 20% from 1,750 to 2,887. Officers were stabbed, taken hostage at knifepoint, and struck. Some had arms or legs broken and endured ligatures and handcuffs.
