Disruption to climate from changes to Gulf Stream

Nature:
Some scientists suggest that the "conveyor belt" motion of of the Gulf Stream could be stopped by changes due to global warming, for example a massive block of cold water from arctic areas. It could happen relatively suddenly, plunging the temperature in the UK by an average 5øC, for example.
