Claim:
In addition to its purely economic value on which attention is primarily focused, forests should also be valued for: their value as a habitat for endangered species; for their natural history value; for their value to science; for the associated aesthetic values; for their value to recreation; for their character-building value; for their religious value, notably as sanctuaries; and for their nonhuman intrinsic value.
