Problem

Mis-oriented facilities

Other Names:
Wrongly aligned buildings
Nature:

Inappropriate alignment, orientation or compositional arrangements have important bearing on many people, whether arising from a religio-cultural perspective (e.g. Chinese Feng Shui), strict religious behaviour (e.g. Muslim), or consideration of "natural law" (magnetic field considerations of some branches of alternative medicine). The concern may have bearing on the positional relationship of people and structures to holy places, the sun and compass bearings, the electro-magnetic field of the earth, underground water and various other features, and influences the design of sacred buildings, houses, and even room layouts inside houses (orientation of beds, for example).

Incidence:

Muslim tenants in a public housing estate in the UK asked the council to have their toilets repositioned so that they do not face towards Mecca.
