Theological collapse

Experimental visualization of narrower problems
Other Names:
Spiritual collapse
Nature:

Twentieth century people experience a void in the dimensions of the spirit, because of the stories, images, methods and modes of relating to the universal, the mysterious, the profound and the trans-historical have been rendered suspect or disfunctional. The collapse is theological in the sense that every individual has an ultimate reality that they own their allegiance to and give their life for, i.e. a god. The understandings, methods, rituals of traditional religions were developed in a scientific world view that has been discredited and the world view that emerged through the scientific revolution at best suggests the questions of faith are outside its field of expertise. The ways people have related to God or Gods have for most been taken away leaving modern people with shallow psychological images and tools. Mythologies are disrelated from experience. Self-understanding reduced to current fads.
