Any number of human beings may be represented symbolically. Symbols may include heads, footprints, houses, automobiles, and anything else that indicates a number of people in a general way. Symbols may also refer to specific groups of people such as workers, soldiers, newborn, elderly, students, etc by reference to one or more attributes.
Metaphor:
Human aggregates can range from a married couple or a family up to and including a nation and all of humanity. Typical aggregates symbolized are military forces, world population and its regional components, the starving, the impoverished, and the world's children.<
