Names

A verbal symbol which designates a particular object of perception. A conceptual object like a class of objects may be designated by a verbal symbol termed an appellative or common ****. In a sense then, names are proper names and in many languages their spelling begins with a capital letter. Onomastics, the science of names, takes in the study of place-names (toponomastics) and personal names. Things are not designated by names but by common nouns or appellatives. This distinction is made in the common speech of many languages. People are asked their names; of objects its as asked what they are called.
