Template:
A list of names compiled for locator use and arranged according to that use. Thus to find a telephone number, room number or street address the directory may be arranged by the names of those to whom the information pertains, in alphabetical order, or alphabetical order within another classification such as town or city, or business or profession (e.g. lawyers in the 'yellow pages'). Basically, all kinds of directories, manual or computerized, may list all records with a common identifies, for example, address, date of birth, ownership, or with a common set or class membership.
