A musical performance open to public attendance, although some concerts may be private or attended by special invitation. The composition and forms of presentation of concerts vary enormously. While many classical music concerts are attended by persons in formal evening clothes and others, who with military self-discipline sit rigidly in their seats for several, hours with little movement, in the midst of Great Concert halls of ancient reputation; there are also the attendees of outdoor popular music concerts, who lie on the grass, drink alcoholic beverages, take drugs and engage in sexual activities during the performance.
