Monument

Template:
By monument is meant ruins, historical structures, and modern free-standing, outdoor erections whose purpose is usually esthetic or commemorative, rather than functional. Monuments may be placed by governments or private organizations or individuals. Modern monumental art has made experimental use of new materials, new techniques and non-representational styles as well as incorporating actual objects such as parts of airplanes or tanks. Some portrait statuary or other sculpture (e.g. Mount Rushmore) is termed, monumental. Monumental art of an impermanent nature may be created from such materials as plaster of paris, wood or concrete. This may serve for publicity or propaganda purposes.
