Requiem

In music, the liturgical mass in memory of the dead which omits the Gloria and Credo and substitutes other sections. It begins with the movement called Requiem followed by the Dies irae (Days of Weath), the Tuba mirum and the Lacrimosa. Cherubini, Liszt, Bruckner, Dvorak, Berlioz, Verdi, Brahms and Britten all composed Requiems, as well as the recent contemporaries, Kabalevskii (USSR), and Bernstein (USA) both of whose works, however, are secular variations on the form.
