Monumental art

Template:
Monumental art embraces a wide range of works of the plastic arts, generally created to harmonize with a specific architectural environment. Monuments, architectural ornamentation (sculpture, painting, and mosaics), stained glass, public sculpture and fountains are some of the various facets of monumental art. Architecture itself is sometimes considered to be a form of monumental art. A number of works of monumental art are intended to embody the general social ideas of the time or to perpetuate the memory of an important person or event. Forming a synthesis with architecture, works of monumental art contribute to give expression to the idea contained in a building or an architecturally organized space.
