In a general sense, a commentary can be a book of comments or notes. The term is often used in journalism, where it refers to an article or radio or television broadcast offering an analysis and evaluation of related recent events. A commentary may focus on various topics such as the sociopolitical, economic, or cultural aspects of contemporary life, bringing the reader or the listener greater insight into the complexity of social reality. Commentaries may sometimes falsely give the impression they are deeply studied objective analyses.
