An annual review is a bibliographic survey of the major publications in a given subject field. When it emphasizes the significance and implications rather than the specific content of the publications, it then provides a state-of-the-art summary, or critical appraisal of developments. Such annotation however may lead to bias in the bibliography and may detract from its rehabilitation.
