Anecdote

Template:
Originally, the term anecdote referred to a brief story about an insignificant but characteristic event drawn from the life of some historical personage. A short, pithy narratives, anecdotes were an early development of the literature of the people, whether gratifying the popular taste for gossip and scandal or employed for edification or entertainment. In modern word usage it also refers to a short, oral and usually humourous narrative of an incident of private life, often with an unexpected and witty ending. If humourous, the telling of anecdotes creates a diversion in everyday life. It not, it becomes an insignificant and possibly boring story for the listener. An anecdotal literary style is one in which there are little or no narrative or interpretive links between anecdotes (similar to an episodic style).
