Painting

Painting is a visual art created by applying colours to a surface. It fulfills ideological and cognitive roles and creates material aesthetic values. Painting reflects and evaluates the spiritual essence and social development of an epoch. Painting may powerfully influence the feelings and thoughts of the viewer. Many paintings have documentary value. The graphic images of painting allow the artist to present his evaluation of life to the viewer in a particularly convincing manner. Painting may reproduce the world's wealth of colour, the three-dimensionality and specific characteristics of objects, texture, space, and the quality of the light and air. Figurative painting, which dominated art until the beginning of the twentieth century, proclaimed reality to be only the material world that the human eye saw. Modern painting has gone to the other extreme of representing as real, subjective, personal impressions and fancies. This has added to the dilemma for contemporary psyches who wander on landscapes without signposts, where the impossible is rendered by the painter as possible.
