Conferencing intentions

Other Names:
Conferencing objectives
Template:
There are, of course, many varied and particular objectives and intentions that are sought through conferencing. There are some which are generally accepted, including: maximization of beneficial contact between participants with complementary interests and commitments; maximization of participant ability to initiate new action, inform and involve other interested participants, form groups and formalize group action (to the degree necessary). Such objectives are often unspoken, neglected and ignored in the procedures. In fact it appears, at many conferences, that these objectives are deliberately avoided and thwarted by restrictions, built into the agenda, the structure and the process.
