Patterns & Metaphors

Video tape

Template:
An audio-visual recording - playback process that can be monitored, edited, transmitted, stored, copied and distributed.
[Advantages] Captures visual as well as audio signals. Very useful for recording sessions which can be repeated when the resource people are not available, and for broadcasting to a wider audience, and edited into a distributable film of the event for those unable to attend.
[Disadvantages] Can be distracting and disconcerting to some people, especially if special lighting and obstrusive equipment is used. A high investment process that can tend to take control of the proceedings. The camera is a selective eye and its apparent objectivity can misrepresent and manipulate an event depending on the person controlling the camera; close- ups tend to expose weakness in the subject and "respected" people are rarely subjected to this.
