Conference insulation

Template:
The degree to which participants in a meeting are insulated from their communicative environment. Insulation does not imply isolation but rather that the channels of communication are interrupted by the introduction of something in between that slows down all or particular elements of the communication.
[Advantages] It is sometimes necessary to "distance" conference participants from the immediacy of an extremely pressing or urgent issue or a situation where the messages are very emotive or provocative, in order to allow them to deal with the issue with a sense of perspective and without distraction.
[Disadvantages] The risk of insulation is the decrease in sensitivity.
