Based on the application or threat of application of punitive sanctions upon the participants: such as the infliction of pain, deformity or death; restriction of movement, food, comfort, etc.
[Advantages] Very effective in controlling and directing behaviour in the short term. Particularly useful with "alienative" hostile participants.
[Disadvantages] Very high investment of time and energy. Least effective in controlling thought -it encourages alienative hostile involvement. Discourages creative input, adaptation, initiative.
