Patterns & Metaphors

Conference papers

Template:
Written contributions, which can be read, presented, passed out to each participant or simply made available.
[Advantages] Written work can generally be clearly researched, thought through and presented. It can stimulate discussion and generate other "papers" in reply. They can be used very well in the seminar process using the structure mapping method which enables very effective small group study.
[Disadvantages] Can be a substitute for discussion and tend to bury valuable insights under a mass of words. When read out they tend to be boring and since they have been prepared in advance they can tend to be out of touch with the flow of the conference. When not read out they are often stored or discarded unread.
