Patterns & Metaphors

Study group

Template:
A group that gathers to conduct some particular coordinated line of research. This could be, for example, into the thought of an author, a situation, or a subject. There is generally a combination of "individual work" and group reflection that leads towards a conclusion that indicates the next step that is required for the group.
[Advantages] Intensity of focus, the richness that arises from the pooling of minds and insights stimulated by a disciplined structure. There is a strong sense of personal creativity that enables a much deeper than usual dialogue between each individual and the material or the subject at hand.
[Disadvantages] Can tend to become academically sterile and divorced from interaction in the wider social context.
