Distortion

Template:
One of the three universal elements of "model" or image creation, distortion refers to the way that the model of a system differs from the system it represents. It has survival value because distortion is often necessary in the process of interpreting and communicating the complexity of "reality". However, distortion can also produce an "impoverished" model which has a reduced structure of choice. The most common examples of distortion used in conference presentations and other forms of communication are:
1. The representation of a process by an event (nominalization);
2. Use of unidentified presuppositions;
3. Distorted analysis of cause and effect.
