Contrition

Description:
Contrition is regret for some action previously done by one's self. Involving ignorance, it interrupts the stability of the mind. It is virtuous when referring to remorse for past sins, non-virtuous when referring to past meritorious activity, neutral when referring to a past activity neither helping nor harming another.
Some sources list [kaukritya] as worry or compunction with [anuddhatya] (restlessness), in their combined state of excitability, as one of the five hindrances to absorption.
Context:
One of the four changeable factors referred to in Tibetan Buddhism. These may be virtuous, non-virtuous or neutral depending on circumstances.<
