Birth of God in the soul's ground

Description:
Meister Eckhart speaks of this arising from detachment, from an inner stillness and silence which may persist in everyday tasks as much as in contemplative and meditative practice. In this silence God works and speaks within. What is important is not so much a practice as an attitude. There is a breaking through consciousness to find an inner centre of stability, a unity and serenity which stays intact despite fluctuations of the conscious state. By grace, man is drawn away from the temporal and purified from the transient. Occurring in time, birth of God in the self transcends time. Happening instantaneously, it is not transitory. There is no alternation of opposites, the ecstasy is not followed by pain. Despite being a transcendent experience, the physical body is caught up in it so that it is a real, physical birth, God is encountered in the flesh.
