State of hell

Description:
This is the state of suffering. There is no ability to think or act freely, one's life force is so reduced that both physically and spiritually one might as well be already dead. Grief, fear, poverty and illness are obvious hells; but each individual may have his own particular hell, perhaps incomprehensible to others. There is a rage which is not the rage of anger but of frustration and self-destruction or the tendency to destroy one's own surroundings. There is pessimistic worry about the worst possible outcome of an event and suffering as though it had already happened, and the state is characterized by a lack of hope. It is the experience of hell that makes one appreciate happiness and sympathize with the unhappiness of others. It is a powerful motivation for action to keep the world out of hell.
Context:
