Sho-chu-hen

Description:
The disciple experiences relative reality - [hen] - in the midst of [sho] (absolute reality). Although [hen], the world of phenomena, predominates, it is nonetheless experienced as a manifestation of the absolute, fundamental, true nature.
Context:
One of five degrees of enlightenment - [goi] - enumerated in Zen buddhism, the depth of enlightenment depending upon the relationship of [sho] (absolute reality) with [hen] (relative reality). This is the first degree of enlightenment.<
