Human Development

State of tranquillity

Description:
A state of calm and peace, this is fundamentally neutral when nothing in the environment upsets or excites. If one does not easily descend into lower worlds, those of the animals, then one is here in the world of humanity. The qualities are intelligence, excellence, acute consciousness, sound judgement, superior wisdom, distinguishing truth from falsehood, able to attain enlightenment, good karma. It is a rather unstable point of balance; it is easy to slide into anger, for example. Also it can be totally negative in laziness, unwillingness to make an effort, negligence and apathy. Like sleep, it is a useful state for restoration but one which must be left behind for effective functioning.
Context:
One of the ten worlds described in Nichiren Soshu Buddhism.<
