Psychic inertia
Description:
It has been postulated that Newton's law - that a body will remain in a state of rest or uniform motion in a straight line unless compelled by an external force to change - may be extended to cover all systems, including the psyche. Psychic inertia or resistance to change manifests to defend every pattern of adaptation and requires an impulse at least as strong to displace it and allow change (however desirable) to occur, since change is seen as a death threat to the ego. The impulses may be from the environment or from the Self.Problems:
