Awareness in this mode is the basic cause, according to Patanjali, of manifestation. Attachment is an intense desire for sentient existence even when manifestation in this particular manner is no longer useful, having been outgrown. The Buddhist reference Abhidharmakosa refers to attachments of four types: to objects of sense; to views; to forms of religion, rituals and regulations; to belief in the individual ego.Context:
