Illusion
Description:
Illusion, or faulty cognition, can result from deceptive sense stimuli, from defective sense mechanisms, from distortions in subconscious apprehension or from interferences with the intrinsic logic of comprehension. Perceived actuality in all these instances is altered to a grossly inaccurate comprehension state. What is perceived does not correspond to the objective physical properties. The misinterpretation which occurs may be based on a predisposition to a certain interpretation because of a preoccupation at the time, and because the situation or stimulus is itself ambiguous. Illusion may be due to misidentification, or (more correctly) to correct identification but misinterpretation.Narrower:
