Human Development

Registering

Description:
This occurs after impulsion (apperception) in the case of a large or very vivid object (with a life of 16 conscious moments) at the "five-doors" (senses) or very clear object at the "mind-door". For beings in the sense-sphere the result is by means of a condition it has obtained previously, whether due to karma, impulsion consciousness or whatever. It occurs as one of the 8 indeterminate resultant consciousnesses with root cause or as one of the 3 indeterminate resultant mind-consciousness elements. Following the impulsion or apperception which has come into play, registration occurs with consciousness making the object of impulsion its object, although it is ready to make the object of life-continuum its object. When registration is complete, life continuum resumes.
Context:
In Hinayana Buddhism, this is the 13th mode of occurrence of consciousness in which the 89 kinds of consciousness proceed.<
