Right rapture of concentration

Description:
Supreme mindfulness guards the mind. Unification or collectedness of the mind associated with right outlook destroys wrong concentration. There is progressive introversion and dismantling of consciousness, even of enstatic states. Stripped of lusts and wrong dispositions, the individual develops and abides in the zest and satisfaction of the first ecstasy. With the laying to rest of observation and reflection there is an inward serenity, a focusing of heart in the zest and satisfaction of the second ecstasy, born of concentration. From here he passes to the third and fourth ecstasies. The characteristic is not wavering, non-distraction; the function is concentrating, placing the mind well on its object; manifestation is in abandoning wrong concentration.
Context:
One of the characteristics of the Eightfold Way of Buddhism attained with the path of bhavana (meditation) and which, together with right endeavour and right mindfulness, constitutes mental discipline (samadhi).<
