Journeying within transcendence - from served to servant

Description:
As a symbol of utter humility and sacrifice in death, Christ washes the disciples' feet, not playing the role of servant but being who he is. This is compared with Judas who, although outwardly a disciple, has only been playing a role. He cannot accept the invitation to integrate the role with his life but refuses self-knowledge. Life can be in service of others needs, or a selfish attempt to protect one's self from death. Fidelity to the ego may be infidelity to the self. The self that I am is a gift to be accepted or rejected.
Context:
The fourteenth section of St John's Gospel, Chapter XIII 1-31, is related to a stage in the spiritual journey of the individual.<
