Magical meditation

Description:
Meditation is used as one of the five magical arts to collect and re-focus awareness towards the core of ritual or ceremony. As such it is a means to an end rather than an end in itself. In magical work there is a balance between inner and outer action. The outer action is defined by words, movements and physical symbols. The inner action is established in meditation which therefore resembles the controlled consciousness-in-movement to be found in the genuine martial arts. Inner and outer awareness fuse together to give a perfect balance. It is not a question of withdrawing consciousness from the outer world as in other mediation techniques.
At a deeper level of meditation, the practitioner (or group) attunes to specific energies, filling the imagination and even the total awareness with the energy in question. Magical meditation does not necessarily pass on into a contemplative stage of formless awareness. In practice in a group different members may take different responsibilities, such that some may act in contemplation as poles of transcendent awareness that may be directed by fellow members using ritual and imagery. Higher consciousness is thus brought into the time- bound world in a highly concentrated form and channelled through mediating patterns towards its goal.
