Psychological reductionism

Description:
This attitude maintains that, although religion provided a prescientific perspective, modern psychology presents a fuller and more accurate picture of the personality. All non-physiological medical problems are psychological or physical. Mysticism can be explained as a regressive reactivation of the lack of ego boundaries of the infant or as obscure self-perception of the realm outside the ego, of the id. To remain scientific one must treat man as an advanced animal but nothing else. Psychoanalysis can study the human reality behind religion. Living in love and thinking truth are the question, not the symbol system used. Religion is only useful if it helps people to live more fully. Without dogma or religious symbols, psychotherapy can accomplish the same results as religion.
