Discipline of study

Description:
This is a means of changing the inner spirit through application of the mind. True study involves understanding of what is studied, interpretation of what is meant and evaluation of the meaning. Four stages are defined: (1) [Repetition]. Since thought processes take on the order of what is studied, repeated and attentive study will form ingrained habits of thought. (2) [Concentration]. With singleness of purpose the attention is centred on the object of study, enhancing the natural ability of the brain. (3) [Comprehension]. A basis for true perception of reality is provided through insight and discernment. (4) [Reflection]. Pondering on the meaning of what has been studied demonstrates its significance and leads to understanding of self.
