Brahmacarya

Description:
Different authorities differ on the details of what is literally "moving in Brahman". Although some require total abstention from sexual intercourse, whether in practice or in thought or speech, others make some exceptions in the case of husband and wife. The fruits of brahmacarya are said to be increase in physical and mental vitality. The senses are restrained, enabling concentration on approaching the self and allowing freedom from sin.
Context:
One of the five moral qualities or virtues of yama (restraint), together comprising the "great vow", the first component of the eightfold path of yoga. One of the five great vows - [mahavrata] - of Jainism.<
