Human Development

Propensity to become

Description:
This term refers to the likelihood and not just the innate possibility that a particular feature of human potential may be realized. It may be considered in stages, as such propensity will be greater or lesser depending on different conditions - if "a" happens then "b" is more likely to occur; if "b" occurs, then "c" is less likely; and so on. The problem is to consider [development to] rather than [development from]; the latter will in some ways affect the former but progress in the desired direction can be made by supplying additional conditions. This is one of three concepts suggested by Israel Scheffler to be useful in defining [human potential].
