Training in land resource management

  • Training in proven land management techniques

Implementation

This strategy features in the framework of Agenda 21 as formulated at UNCED (Rio de Janeiro, 1992), now coordinated by the United Nations Commission on Sustainable Development and implemented through national and local authorities.

Agenda 21 recommends facilitating the organizational review of government ministries and agencies responsible for land questions, in order to devise more efficient mechanisms of land-resource management, and carrying out periodic in-service refresher courses for their managers and staff in order to familiarize them with up-to-date land-resource management technologies. Agenda 21 also recommends training communities, relevant extension services, community based groups and NGOs on land management techniques and approaches that have been successfully applied elsewhere.
