Restricting private automobiles

  • Limiting motorized individual transport

Implementation

In reducing individual car traffic, initiatives in several cities have shown that a "push-and-pull system" promises success -- where "pushing" consists of restrictions, parking area reduction, car-free zones and periods and similar regulations. "Pulling" means to improve alternative transport options for the private individual -- better public transport services, closer shops, work and facilities to home, bicycle paths and so on.
