Providing training for urban environmental health workers

Context

Some local authorities and agencies face practical difficulties arising from a lack of experience of environmental health methodologies and public communication techniques. For them, building up capacity in these topics will be a prerequisite for successful implementation of environmental health actions.

Implementation

This strategy features in the framework of Agenda 21 as formulated at UNCED (Rio de Janeiro, 1992), now coordinated by the United Nations Commission on Sustainable Development and implemented through national and local authorities.

Agenda 21 suggests provision of basic and in-service training for both new and existing personnel.
