Providing access to treatment for acute respiratory infections

  • Reducing infant deaths from acute respiratory infections

Implementation

This strategy features in the framework of Agenda 21 as formulated at UNCED (Rio de Janeiro, 1992), now coordinated by the United Nations Commission on Sustainable Development and implemented through national and local authorities.

The aim is to initiate comprehensive programmes to reduce mortality from acute respiratory infections in children under five years old by at least one third, particularly in countries with high infant mortality, by the year 2000.
